SEOUL, Nov. 6 (Yonhap) — Boy band Super Junior expressed gratitude to the group’s fans and asked for their continued support in a video message marking the 13th anniversary of its debut Tuesday.

“We were able to be loved for 13 years because you fans have been there for us,” Leeteuk, leader of the band, said in the message uploaded on YouTube and Naver TV. “It’s the 13th anniversary now, and we’d like to continue sending these video messages to you till we celebrate the 23rd, 33rd, and 43rd anniversaries.”

Group member Siwon said, “It’s been 13 years that Super Junior has been together with ELF. This would have been impossible without your patience, love and support.” ELF refers to the group’s fanbase.

Super Junior debuted in 2005 with 12 members — Leeteuk, Heechul, Hangeng, Yesung, Kangin, Shindong, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Donghae, Siwon, Ryeowook, Kibum. It expanded to a 13-piece group with the joining of the youngest member, Kyuhyun, in 2006 but later was reduced to the current 11 members after Hangeng and Kibum bolted from the team for personal reasons.

Of them, Kangin and Sungmin have remained inactive since being accused of drunk driving charges and fiercely criticized for not communicating with fans, respectively.

Since the debut, the group has produced numerous hits, such as “Sorry, Sorry,” “Bonamana,” “Mr. Simple” and “Mamacita.” It has set records as the first K-pop group to hold a solo concert in France and to top a Taiwanese music service for 121 weeks in a row. It also became the first K-pop artists to appear on Billboard’s Latin charts, “One More Time,” a special EP album released on Oct. 8.

Super Junior will hold a concert at Tokyo Dome on Nov. 30-Dec. 1.
