October 18, 2018

SEOUL, Oct. 18 (Yonhap) — K-pop superstars BTS have renewed their seven-year exclusive contract with Big Hit Entertainment, the agency announced Thursday.

“Based on our solid trust in and affection for BTS, we have signed a new seven-year contract,” Big Hit said.

The renewal came one year ahead of their current seven-year deal’s expiration next year.

“It is Big Hit’s philosophy that it should reward the artists who have achieved the best performance worldwide with the best treatment,” the agency said.

The renewal will help the boy band continue their music career in “a more stable and long-term manner.” Big Hit also said it will further expand its 100-strong team of staff for BTS as part of its plan to intensify investment in and support for the band.

BTS were quoted as saying, “We will do our best to present a better performance to fans from around the world and to Big Hit, which has generously supported us so far.”

BTS became a worldwide sensation with their music containing social messages and their impressive dance performances.

In recognition of their services to promoting Korean pop culture and the Korean alphabet, “Hangeul,” the septet will be awarded the fifth-notch “Hwagwan” order of cultural merit by the government in a ceremony on Oct. 24.
