2017 U-20 World Cup organizers announce young tiger as mascot

August 26, 2016

SEOUL, Aug. 25 (Yonhap) — The official mascot for the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea was unveiled on Thursday. It is a young tiger called “Chaormi” which will represent the tournament.

The organizing committee of the U-20 World Cup said that Chaormi, whose name means “rise brightly with passion” in Korean, conveys people’s enthusiasm to play football and their excitement for the upcoming event.

The mascot is a collaborative work between the organizing committee and FIFA, the world football governing body. The two sides previously worked together when they unveiled the official slogan for the tournament, “Trigger the Fever,” in June.

FIFA introduced Chaormi as “an emblematic and unique depiction of Korea Republic,” saying it reflects a “balance between traditional and contemporary Korean culture.” The mascot is closely related to Korea’s history as the tiger has been strongly associated with Korean folklore. FIFA added that Chaormi also has a modern look, although he wears the traditional Korean costume hanbok, and this will appeal to young fans.

“I hope the mascot Chaormi will publicize the FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017 broadly, and serve as an ambassador of the tournament to engage with fans,” said the organizing committee chief Chung Mong-gyu, who is also the president of the Korea Football Association.

The organizers said South Korean fans can first meet Chaormi next Thursday at Seoul World Cup Stadium in the capital where the national team will go up against China in their final round of Asian qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

South Korea will host the U-20 World Cup from May 20 to June 11, 2017, in six cities: Cheonan, Daejeon, Incheon, Jeju, Jeonju and Suwon. The draw of the 24-nation tournament is slated for March 11, 2017.

South Korea is the third country, along with Mexico and Japan, to have hosted all major FIFA men’s tournaments, with the 2001 Confederations Cup, the 2002 World Cup and the 2007 U-17 World Cup.

yes..I like the basic concepts behind Second Life but it seems incredibly outdated and when I played it was intensely non-intuitive / user friendly to an extent that made EVE look like a game for toddlers. thanks from
