YG Entertainment to roll out new girl group

SEOUL, June 29 (Yonhap) — YG Entertainment, the country’s second largest entertainment agency known for hit idol groups BigBang and 2NE1, said on Wednesday that it is counting down until the debut of its first girl group in seven years.

Dubbed “Black Pink,” an all-female quartet with Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo and Rose, is in the process of shooting three music videos, as it gears up to dive into the K-pop scene.

The group’s imminent debut has seized wide attention since YG Entertainment has not unveiled a new girl group since 2NE1 that launched in 2009.

“At first, YG Entertainment chief Yang Hyun-suk thought of making Black Pink a team of nine members, then cut it down to a quartet to concentrate support on all members,” YG Entertainment said in a press release.

The group’s name is built on the motif of the parallel between the two different colors, rosy pink and biting black, according to the agency.

Music producer Teddy Park, who produced hit songs for both BigBang and 2NE1, has composed, written and produced the songs on Black Pink’s debut album.
