U-IE bolts from After School

SEOUL, May 31 (Yonhap) — Singer-actor U-IE is breaking away from girl group After School with the expiration of her contract with the group’s management agency.

“U-IE came to graduate from After School and leave Pledis Entertainment as her contract with the company ended today,” the Pledis Entertainment said in a notice on its website. “Pledis, which has been with U-IE for a long time, supports her future and sincerely hopes she continues to develop.”

U-IE also informed the public of her departure in a handwritten letter posted on the group’s Internet-based fan cafe.

Debuting as an After School member in 2009, U-IE has appeared in various television dramas such as “You’re Beautiful,” “Ojakgyo Brothers,” “High Society” and “Marriage Contract.”

She solidified her position as an actress by winning the award for best performance in the 2016 MBC Acting Grand Prize award ceremony.
