SEOUL (Yonhap) — JYP Entertainment, one of South Korea’s three largest entertainment agencies, on Tuesday showcased TWICE, its first girl group in five years.

The nine-member act performed tracks from its first album “The Story Begins” at a press event in Seoul.

The multinational group, comprised of six South Koreans, two Japanese and one Taiwanese, was formed through an Mnet music audition program, “Sixteen,” which was broadcast in May.

“We want to become a group that people immediately associate with South Korea,” the group said. “We hope to impress a lot of people.”

“The Story Begins” contains six tracks including the title song “Like OOH-AHH,” a hybrid hip-hop, R&B and rock track which, surprisingly, wasn’t written by the agency’s founder Park Jin-young.

“I think the agency took a risk by having someone else write our title song,” leader Jihyo said. “So we feel the responsibility to meet their high expectations.”

TWICE will perform live on the smartphone app V JYP said.
