SEOUL, Oct. 19 (Yonhap) — South Korean group Bangtan Boys (BTS) ranked No. 1 on Billboard’s “Social 50″ with its new album “Wings,” marking another big moment for the K-pop scene, according to the chart updated on Tuesday (U.S. time).

The group’s second studio album topped Billboard’s “Social 50,” “World Album” and “World Digital Song” charts after it hit No. 26 on the main “Billboard 200,” the highest position ever reached by a Korean singer.

Billboard’s “Social 50″ is a ranking of the most active and popular artists on leading social networking sites. The popularity is determined by a formula that adds up an artist’s weekly friends, fans and followers, along with page views and weekly song plays, and is measured by Next Big Sound, a company providing analytics for online music. World famous pop stars including Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Psy have previously scored No. 1 on this chart.

“Bangtan Boys’ No. 1 spot on ‘Social 50′ is the result of constant communication with fans online and challenging themselves by creating various content using different concepts,” said its agency BigHit Entertainment on Wednesday.
