Ryu suffers leg injury, 6th loss of the season

Los Angeles Dodgers’ Korean pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin not only lost the game on Wednesday night in Atlanta, he got hurt.

Ryu immediately turned toward the Dodgers’ dugout and motioned for assistance after delivering ball four to B.J. Upton with two outs in the sixth inning. He appeared to grab his right hamstring, and squatted down for a few minutes.

Ryu ended up leaving the game after 5 2/3 innings (6 hits, 3runs, 2 walks, 7 strikeouts) for his shortest outing since lasting only 2 1/3 frames against the Detroit Tigers on July 8.

Jamey Wright came on in relief of the left-hander with the Dodgers trailing, 3-2, and the score did not change.

Ryu took his sixth loss of the season instead of 14th win, and his ERA went up from 3.21 to 3.28.

According to ESPN, Ryu’s injury is diagnosed as a right gluteus muscle strain, and it’s unclear if he’ll miss any starts.
