Vonn breaks up with Woods, named honorary ambassador for PyeongChang Games

U.S. Olympic alpine skiing gold medalist Lindsey Vonn made headlines for both professional and personal reasons within the past 24 hours.

Organizers announced Vonn as an honorary ambassador Sunday for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Games. The appointment on Wednesday will make her the first non-Korean athlete to hold the position so far for the event.

Others include Olympic figure skating gold medalist Kim Yuna, speed skater Lee Kyou-hyuk and Major Leage Baseball player Choo Shin-soo.

On an entirely separate issue, both Vonn and professional golfer Tiger Woods announced their breakup on Sunday after a three year relationship.

She used Facebook to break the news and cited reasons including both of their “incredibly hectic lives.”

Woods and Vonn both attended the Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia in April in which she and Woods’ children joined him during the par-3 challenge.

“I will always cherish the memories that we’ve created together,” she wrote. “I will always admire and respect Tiger. He and his beautiful family will always hold a special place in my heart.”

Woods shared the sentiment and it seemed that the separation ended amicably.

“I have great admiration, respect and love for Lindsey and I’ll always cherish our time together,” he said. “She has been amazing with Sam and Charlie and my entire family.”
