SEOUL, June 28 (Yonhap) — South Korea’s top tech giant Samsung Electronics Co. topped a U.S. quality test for the second consecutive year in 2015 for the high-definition TV segment, industry watchers said Sunday.

According to the research conducted by industry tracker J.D. Power and Associates, Samsung Electronics won the highest consumer satisfaction ratings for both under 50-inch and 50-inch or larger HDTVs.

With the satisfaction rating– based on performance, reliability, features, price, ease of operation, style appearance, and warranty – calculated on a 1,000-point scale, J.D. Power said the South Korean giant earned a score of 871 for the 50-inch or larger sector and 856 for those smaller.

U.S.-based Vizio followed in the larger segment with 867, trailed by Samsung’s smaller South Korean rival LG Electronics Inc., with 857. As for the smaller segment, LG ranked No. 2 with 847, trailed by Vizio with 834.

The study was based on more than 3,750 customers who purchased an HDTV in the past 12 months.

Samsung said in its latest release the company took up 34.1 percent of the U.S. TV market through May 2015 to stand as the No. 1 player. Vizio and LG held 17.9 percent and 11.7 percent, respectively.
