SEOUL (Yonhap) — Shin Hae-chul, who represented the Korean rock scene in the 1990s, was pronounced dead on Monday, five days after falling into a comma following a massive heart attack, hospital officials said. He was 46 years old.

Shin had been hospitalized in an intensive care unit at the Asan Medical Center in southern Seoul since Oct. 22 after receiving ardiopulmonary resuscitation as he had a widespread infection in the peritoneum, or abdominal cavity lining, and intestines.

The news of his death shocked his fans as the charismatic rock singer fell unconscious just four months after releasing his latest album “Reboot Myself,” the first in six years. He was preparing to tour with other musicians to showcase his new songs later this year.

Shin debuted in 1988 by winning the grand prize at a college music contest with the modern rock song, “To You.” The song, written and composed by Shin, was an instant success, being often used as a cheerleading song in college festivals.

The versatile musician has released more than 30 studio albums and experimented with various genres ranging from modern rock to jazz and ballads to techno.

The musician, who earned the nickname “King of Darkness” for his cynical style, released four albums under the band N.EX.T (New EXperimental Team) for five years from 1992, drawing in rock ‘n’ roll wannabes in South Korea.

In 1997, Shin disbanded N.EX.T and moved to England to study music and producing. He presented electronic music under the name “Crom” in projects such as Monocrom and Wittgenstein to expand his genres.

The singer, who was arrested in 1989 on charges of smoking marijuana, has been active in a wide range of social issues, including the legalization of marijuana and the scrapping of the adultery law, and supported liberal President Roh Moo-hyun during his 2002 election campaign.

The article has many spelling and grammatical errors. The flow of the article is terse at best and unfortunately speaks volumes about the lack of the mastery of basic english grammar. While improvements need to be made the article serves as a decent outline in the beginning stages of forming a final draft. I hope that the korea times focuses on editing articles and attempt to employ the proper use of grammar and improvements in general journalistic style and reporting to provide readers with a better article and not just the content.

Clearly, you have achieved “the mastery of basic English grammar”. Asshole.
