Yolanda, a golden retriever service dog, was trained for these types of moments. A fire had spread throughout a Philadelphia home earlier in August and her blind owner was rendered unconscious from smoke inhalation.

She rushed over to her specialized phone to notify authorities that there was an emergency. As soon as she had completed the task, Yolanda rushed over to her owner who had collapsed and pulled her out the front door where she could get fresh air until the fire department arrived.

The incident wasn’t the first time she had completed a successful rescue.

Just a year ago when her owner fell and hit her head, Yolanda knew that the sixty-year-old woman needed medical attention.

As a reward, she was given plenty of toys and treats by the Red Paw Emergency Relief Team (RPER) who shared the story on Facebook.

Yolanda is one of many dogs that RPER has trained for individuals with disabilities.
