The weekend was good to Korean American Hank Conger, catcher for the Houston Astros, and Korean adoptee Robert Refsnyder, second basemen for the New York Yankees.

Conger belted a solo home run in the fifth inning Saturday against the Miami Marlins’ Mat Latos in the fifth inning.

He went 1-for-3 with a strikeout and a walk in a 1-1 tie game.

Conger sat out Sunday in a 7-0 loss against the Yankees and will start on the bench during Monday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow said catcher Evan Gattis will mostly be playing left field during the regular season and serve as a designated hitter, which will most likely make it easier for Conger to see more playing time.

Jason Castro is the team’s other catcher and took on the majority of the games last season at that position.

Robert Refsnyder went 2-for-3 as a designated hitter on Sunday against the Houston Astros raising his average to a team-high .313 among teammates who have had at least 30 at-bats.

Despite his strong offensive performance, the rookie will probably have to take a backseat to 32-year-old Stephen Drew once the regular season starts according to General Manager Brian Cashman’s statement in which he called the veteran “the smart choice.”

Refsnyder was given the Yankees’ Minor League Player of the Year award on Saturday.

Hank Conger was NOT adopted; he was born in Huntington Beach. His father Yun Conger was adopted by Adrian Conger, from Korea. Hank is the son of Yun Conger.
