Ryu ties Dodgers record by giving up eight hits in one inning

Los Angeles Dodgers’ Korean pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin didn’t fare any better than the Brazilian soccer team Tuesday. He also got battered for a career-worst seven earned runs before getting knocked out in the third inning.

The Dodgers (51-41) got off to a great start on the road against the Detroit Tigers (49-37) as they scored five runs in the first inning, thanks to Adrian Gonzalez’s two-run double and Juan Uribe’s two-run home run.

But it turned out to be an all-Ryu-can-hit night for the Tigers, as the Korean left-hander was mauled for seven earned runs for the first time in a single game in his Major League career. 

Ryu  gave up eight runs over just two innings on April 4, against the San Francisco Giants at home, but two of those runs were recorded as unearned.

In his worst performance since that day, Ryu allowed seven runs, all of them earned, on 10 hits and two walks over just 2 1/3 innings. He struck out two.

The Dodgers never recovered as they ended up getting embarrassed 14-5.

Ryu’s ERA ballooned from 3.08 to 3.65, as he failed to win his 10th game of the season for the third consecutive outing. His record fell to 9-5.

Last year, he was 7-3 with 3.09 ERA at the halfway mark.
