27th Festival of Love for disabled to be held in LA

Thirty eight Los Angeles churches and organizations will come together on Dec. 6 for a dance party for the disabled.

“Festival of Love,” held for the 27th time, will be held at 11:30 a.m. inside Youngnak Presbyterian Church of Los Angeles for the first time in two years.

The theme for the event will be “Live Out Loud,” with about 250 participants with disabilities attending as princes and princesses, said Youngnak Outreach & Transformation Foundation President Tom Cho.

The party’s dress code is gold and silver, with tiaras for women and crowns for men.

This-ability Orchestra and a violinist will open the event at 12 p.m., followed by lunch and additional performances by the Mission Chorus Saxophone Ensemble, trumpet player Joy Ko and gospel singer Vicki Lee.

Park Hyun-ju, a missionary, said the event would run until 4 p.m., including an hour and half of dance time. Other activities will include nail art and six booths with information about people with disabilities.

About 400 people volunteered for the event.

Participants must be older than 12 years of age and can apply by Nov. 26.

“I hope this becomes an opportunity for them to realize that being disabled is not a shameful thing and for them to accept their self-worth,” said Heo Dong-hyun, a pastor.
