(CNS) High temperature records for the date of May 15 have now been tied in downtown Los Angeles and at the Long Beach Airport, while a new record has been set at Los Angeles International Airport.

Downtown Los Angeles has reached 101 degrees, tying the record for the date set in 1970.

A reading of 100 degrees at the Long Beach Airport ties the old record set in 1967.

At Los Angeles International Airport, a reading of 97 degrees breaks the old record of 94 degrees set in 1970.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power also reported record electricity demand for May and is asking customers to reduce strain on the grid by cutting back energy consumption through 6 p.m.
