February 6, 2017

SEOUL, Feb. 6 (Yonhap) — Netmarble Games, South Korea’s No. 1 mobile game developer and publisher, said Monday that its sales for 2016 reached 1.5 trillion won (US$1.3 billion) on the back of the global popularity of its latest game product “Lineage 2 Revolution.”

Sales soared 40.4 percent on-year to reach a record of 1.5 trillion won in 2016, the company said in a regulatory filing. Operating income also increased 31.1 percent on-year to 295.4 billion won.

The on-year sales growth came heavily from overseas, the company said.

Revenue from overseas markets accounted for 51 percent of its total sales in 2016, compared with 28 percent in 2015 and 17 percent in 2014, officials said.

For the fourth quarter of 2016, sales also increased 36.4 percent on-year to 469 billion won and operating profit surged 80.9 percent on-year to 118.8 billion won.

“The company has made efforts to bring success in the global market such as the United States, China and Japan,” Netmarble CEO Kwon Yeong-sik said. “The company will focus on making more successes this year by competing against major global game companies.”

Netmarble, established in 2000, has been producing and providing some of the most successful mobile and online games, including MARVEL Future Fight, Seven Knights, EvilBane (RAVEN in Korea and Japan) and Everybody’s Marble.

The mobile role-playing game Lineage 2 Revolution has gained huge success by bringing in more than 100 billion in revenue just two weeks after launch. The game was launched in December 2016.

The company is reportedly seeking to list on the country’s main bourse instead of on the tech-heavy KOSDAQ or overseas. The company said it will announce details about IPO plans on Feb. 18.
