K-pop rookie Meovv aims high with 1st album
Rookie girl group Meovv has already made a mark on the K-pop scene with its unique identity that channels the “chic and lovely” characteristics of cats.
The group is now hoping to step boldly into a new era with its first physical album, “My Eyes Open Vvide,” set to be released Monday evening.
“With this album, we’re moving toward a deeper and more expansive world of music, and we’re ready to fully show you Meovv’s unique universe,” member Sooin said during a media showcase in Seoul.
“Please keep an eye on Meovv as we soar to new heights.”

Meovv is a five-member girl group that debuted last September under The Black Label, led by Teddy, the hit producer behind songs for BIGBANG, 2NE1 and BLACKPINK.
“When we first debuted, our image was strongly associated with that of chic and aloof black cats,” Narin said. “But through this EP, we’ve tried to show a wider range of charms — like multicolored cats with diverse personalities.”
The upcoming album features a total of six tracks, including the band’s debut song, “Meow,” as well as previously released songs, such as “Toxic” and “Hands Up.”
The lead track, “Drop Top,” expresses the idea of approaching the world with one’s unique perspective. It’s a pop song infused with rock elements that starts with a calm tone before bursting into energetic rhythms.
“This is the first song we ever recorded with our own music during our trainee days,” Gawon, who participated in penning the song’s lyrics, explained. “You could say it’s the song that has been with Meovv the longest. The lyrics capture the meaning that this moment, right now, is the hottest and most precious, so let’s enjoy this moment as it is.”
Anna recalls the music video shoot as a liberating experience. “There weren’t many fixed scenes, so we could film freely and naturally, capturing our relaxed and genuine selves. Sooin, Gawon and Ella even had scenes where they appeared to fly in the sky, while I cheered them on from below.”
When asked which area the group has grown in most since its debut eight months ago, Narin pointed to performances on music shows and communication with fans.
“At first, we were shy around fans on music shows and felt awkward on stage,” she said. “But after having more everyday conversations with our fans, we feel much more comfortable now, and we think we can communicate better this time around.”
Asked what kind of title they hope to earn with their first album, she replied, “versatile cats.”
“We want to be known as ‘versatile cats,’ combining Meovv’s limitless charm in both vocals and performance with the cat — the symbol of our group.”
