Famed Korean ballad singer Jang Hye-jin will hold a concert Friday in Los Angeles to raise awareness for bone marrow donations.

The free concert, titled “Miracle Concert with Jang Hye-jin and Friends,” will be held at the Ebell Theater and feature pianist Sunny Choi and violinist Yoo Jung-yeon, the singer and Asians for Miracle Marrow Matches (A3M) said at a press conference held in Koreatown’s BCD Soon Tofu Wednesday.

A Korean donor and recipient will meet for the first time in a year since the transplant at the event, organizers said.

“I heard they wanted me to participate in a bone marrow awareness movement while in Korea and happily joined,” Jang said. “My song ‘To Me,’ in particular, is about hope, and I hope the English version of it becomes an addition to the bone marrow movement.”

Free tickets will be available at 940 S. Western Ave. A3M plans to collect bone marrow donation applications and monetary donations.

“I thank the Korean American society and Korean singers for supporting the bone marrow donation movement,” said Shin Ito, A3M project director. “Through them, we plan to show even more people the results of donations.”

Each year, 12,000 people across the U.S. need bone marrow donors.

“Bone marrow donation is a miracle that can save someone’s life,” Jang said. “I’ll try my best on the day of the concert. I hope many Koreans come to support the movement.”
