Full Korean-English book series of famous Korean short stories published

SEOUL, March 31 (Yonhap) — A local publisher said Tuesday it has published the last batch of famous Korean short stories written in both Korean and English, completing a three-year ambitious publication project.

Seoul-based Asia Publishers Co. began publishing the “Bi-lingual Edition Modern Korean Literature” series in 2012 with the hopes that the series would serve as a window to Korean culture for foreigners. When the planning period is included, it took seven years for the publisher to complete the project, according to the company.

The full 110-volume “Bi-lingual Edition Modern Korean Literature” series, which contains one short story by each author, is now available at local bookstores and will soon go on sale on Amazon, the publisher said.

The series include short stories by major Korean writers such as Kim Dong-ri, Yi Cheong-jun, Park Wan-seo, Jo Jung-rae, Hwang Sok-young, Shin Kyung-sook and Kim Ae-ran.

“This is the first attempt to introduce to the world Korean writers representing Korean literature,” Bang Hyeon-seok, president of the publishing company, said during a news conference in Seoul. “We tried to make efforts to select titles that can best reflect a diverse spectrum of Korean society.”
