Former PM rejects PPP candidate’s offer to serve as election campaign chairman
Former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo has turned down People Power Party (PPP) presidential candidate Kim Moon-soo’s offer to serve as chairman of his campaign committee for the June 3 election, according to an aide to Han on Monday.
Kim asked Han to lead his campaign after the former labor minister registered as the PPP’s official candidate on Sunday, after a week of internal party disputes over unifying their candidacies to present a stronger front against Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung.
Han ended his brief, contentious bid to win the PPP’s ticket after party members voted down a motion on Saturday that would have replaced Kim with Han.
“For the party to win the election, (Han) believes that the person running in the election should take on the role of campaign chairman,” Han’s aide told Yonhap News Agency by phone.
