K-pop boy band EXO-M Chinese member Luhan’s side released statement Friday in response to SM Entertainment’s damages suit filed Thursday, Korean media reported.

The singer’s representatives said SM Entertainment has no contractual basis to claim exclusive rights to Luhan in China, and Shanghai courts have no jurisdiction over the case, according to Chinese local media.

SM Entertainment, one of South Korea’s largest K-pop factories, said in its damages suit that the 24-year-old singer — who filed a lawsuit to terminate his contract in October last year — carried out TV, film and commercial activities in China without its permission.

Luhan’s side said SM’s accusations are libelous.

Luhan is one of EXO’s four Chinese members. Another, Kris, filed a similar lawsuit for contract termination against the agency in May last year.
