Fourteen people were hurt during Easter service after a ceiling caved inside Korean Union United Methodist Church in Rahway, N.J., Sunday.

According to police, the injured — who were renting out the church from a separate congregation — were hit by debris falling from the ceiling after a cracking sound disrupted service around 2 p.m.

One person was critically injured.

Authorities do not know yet what caused the ceiling collapse.

Pastor Park Tae-yeol, who was at the Korean service that ended at 10:30 a.m. earlier that day, said there had been no signs of trouble with the ceiling during his congregation.

The church, which was built more than 100 years ago, became New Jersey’s first Korean church in 1972.
