Bullpen fails Ryu

Los Angeles Dodgers Korean pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin did just about everything he could to win his 10th game of the season Tuesday at home.

But he didn’t finish the game himself, and the bullpen ended up blowing the 3-2 lead.

The Cleveland Indians (41-43) came back to win 5-4 to take two out of three games at Dodger Stadium.

The 27-year-old left-hander pitched well to allow only two runs on seven hits over seven innings, and did not walk a batter while striking out eight.

Ryu said after the game that he was not disappointed since he knows he did his job as a pitcher.

“Innings pitched, strikeouts… I felt good about the numbers as I came off the mound,” Ryu said.

His win-loss record remained at 9-4, but his ERA was lowered from 3.12 to 3.08.

Ryu also went 2 for 2 with his bat, including an RBI double that triggered a three-run fifth.

His only mistake, besides not finishing the game himself, was allowing a 400-foot two-run home run to Indians’ back up utility player Ryan Raburn in the fourth inning.

Scott Van Slyke hit his seventh home run of the season for the Dodgers (48-39), but it wasn’t enough to save Brian Wilson, who coughed up three runs on two hits and three walks (one intentional) while getting just one (strike) out in the eighth inning.
