SEOUL (Yonhap) — The Hollywood blockbuster “Avengers: Age of Ultron” has become the fastest foreign film to surpass three million viewers in South Korea, data showed Sunday.

According to the Korean Film Council and Walt Disney Co. Korea, the film’s distributor, the superhero flick exceeded the three million mark in attendance earlier Sunday, the fourth day of its run. The film, the sequel to the 2012 work “The Avengers,” has also grossed more than 26 billion won, or about $24.2 million.

“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” based on the Marvel Comics team of superheroes, has joined the South Korean hit “Roaring Currents” as the only films here to draw at least three million viewers over their first four days.

“Roaring Currents” remains the most popular film ever to be screened in South Korea with 17.61 million viewers. It hit the theaters last July and had 3.5 million viewers after four days.

“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” directed by Joss Whedon, was partly shot in Seoul, and members of the star-studded cast, including Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, visited Seoul earlier this month to promote the film. South Korean actress Claudia Kim has a small role in the film.
