The city of Monterey Park is getting a monthly night market of its own, with the inaugural event opening at Barnes Park on July 25 from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

With Kollaboration and KCM Agency — the same team behind April’s KTOWN Night Market — on board, the MPK Night Market will feature food trucks, booths, art, merchandise vendors, games, live music at the Barnes Park Amphitheater and a beer and wine garden, the city’s first to open at a public park.

In addition, the official after-party will be held at American Legion Post 397.

The free-to-enter market, which will open one Friday every subsequent month, was a welcomed idea during city hearings as a method to bring a burst of nightlife to the area, said Mayor Anthony Wong and City Councilman Peter Chan.

“We’re looking forward to bringing this night market to our city,” Chan said in an official press release. “The festival will provide exciting activities, entertainment, and food for all the residents to enjoy.”

The event will hopefully help boost the city’s economy and attract attention to the community, said Rafael G. Salazar, chamber chair and the primary organizer of the night market.

Thirty local food vendors will be at the festival, including Ice Cream Lab, Auntie Merry, Fluff Ice, Tanota Takoyaki, Mighty Boba, GP Bakery, Carb & Nation and Swirls Potato & Lemonade.
