Catholic Radio Station Coming to Southland

(CNS) – Immaculate Heart Radio is coming to Los Angeles and Orange counties in a move that could vastly increase its listener base, the broadcaster announced today.

“Bringing Immaculate Heart Radio to Southern California will make families and parishes stronger and help us share the Gospel with those who may have left the church or given up on God,” Archbishop Jose Gomez said.

Immaculate Heart Radio reached deals with Trans America Broadcasting and filed a contract with the Federal Communication Commission to take control of KTYM 1460-AM, a 5,000-watt station. The transactions are expected to close this summer.

“Every broadcaster wants to be in Los Angeles and being here has been our goal for nearly 20 years,” said Doug Sherman, president of IHR. “This is a hugely important to Immaculate Heart Radio.”

IHR hopes to add up to 11 million listeners in Los Angeles and Orange counties, expanding its potential listener base to about 46 million people.

IHR, started in Reno, Nev., in 1997, is a nonprofit group of 31 listener-supported, non-commercial radio stations broadcasting across the West and in Hawaii.
