Beloved S. Korean radio host Kim Kwang-han dies at 69

Kim Kwang-han, a long-loved South Korean radio host, pop columnist and vice president of the Korean Association for the Study of Popular Music, died Thursday night, according to local media.

He was 69.

Kim was taken to a hospital following a heart attack Monday morning.

Kim debuted as a radio host in 1966 with FBS FM’s “Hit Parade” and continued with KBS 2FM’s “Kim Kwang-han’s Pops Dial,” “Golden Pops” and CBS’s “Radio Star.”

As a TV host, he helmed KBS’s “Show Video Jockey” from 1987 to 1991.

During the 1980s, Kim was known as one of the country’s top DJs alongside Lee Jong-hwan and Kim Ki-duk.

    Kim was not only a talented broadcaster and entertainer he was a wonderful man. I met him in 1991 when I was the host of AFKN’s morning radio show based in Seoul. We became good friends and then lost touch. I’m sorry to learn of his passing.
