“Project K,” a Korean film festival in Frankfurt, Germany, will take place for four days from Oct. 17, at the Bockenheim campus of Frankfurt University.

The festival, in its second year, will be co-hosted by the Korean consul general in Frankfurt, “KGN,” an organization of second-generation Korean-Germans, and students of Koreanology at the Frankfurt University.

Under the theme of “4 Days in Seoul,” a student hall will be decorated with the motif of four regions in Seoul including Myeong-dong and Insa-dong. The venue will screen 22 Korean movies and provide various programs.

Kim Baek-ki, head of Korea Performance Art Spirit (KoPAS), is to give the opening performance, while the opening film will be “The Thieves (2012),”which recorded the largest number of viewers among all Korean movies.

Following the box-office hit, there will be a number of experimental, enterprising movies including independent films, short films, and animations, which will introduce recent trends in the Korean movie industry.

“Father’s e-mail,” which won Best Picture Award at Seoul Independent Film Festival in 2012 and “A girl from Haeundea beach,” which won the grand prize in the short film division, are on the list of entries.

Besides the film screening, the festival will be filled with diverse cultural events where participants can appreciate traditional Korean culture. People can sing a song at “Noraebang,” the Korean style karaoke room, wear “Hanbok,” the traditional dress of Korea, enjoy a K-Pop party, and try Korean food and tea.

The festival will also have an academic lecture on relations between Korea and Germany, the largest K-Pop contest in Germany, a Taekwondo demonstration by both Korean and German contestants, and promotional booths by the Korean Tourism Organization (KTO).

Successfully running its first festival in 2012, Project K is also highly anticipated to expand the horizon of Korean movies in Germany this year.
