Lt. Col. Steven Lee has become the first Korean American to be selected as a navy captain.

Lee, 44, whose Korean name is Lee Soo-up, was recorded in 2011 as the first Korean American captain who had graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy when he headed the USS Gonzalez.

He will be officially promoted at a Pentagon ceremony in September.
