BigBang finishes second on ‘TIME 100′ online poll

SEOUL, April 15 (Yonhap) — South Korean boy group BigBang ranked No. 2 on TIME magazine’s online voting for its 100 most influential people of 2016 list, according to the magazine’s website Friday.

U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders edged out the band’s 2.9 percent to claim the number one spot with 3.3 percent, the magazine said in an article on the results of the poll that closed Thursday.

Big Bang ranked higher than Burmese leader Aung San Suu Kyi (2.2 percent), U.S. President Barack Obama (2 percent), Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai (1.9 percent) and global pop singer Lady Gaga (1.8 percent).

Taylor Swift, also a global pop singer, U.S. first lady Michelle Obama, Pope Francis and American actor Leonardo DiCaprio round out the top 10. Hillary Clinton, Sanders’ opponent for the Democratic nomination, finished 25th with 1 percent of the votes cast.

“The TIME 100″ is the magazine’s annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world, spanning politics, entertainment, business, technology, science, religion and other fields. Chosen by the editors of TIME, this year’s official list will be unveiled on Thursday.
