Mayor of Seoul to speak at Stanford

Stanford University’s Asia-Pacific Research Center (APARC) and Institute for National Studies will host guest speaker, Park Won-soon, current mayor of Seoul.  The event is open to the public and will take place on Sept. 25.

In a lecture titled “Good Governance In South Korea: Mobilizing Citizens Through Engaged Communication,” Park plans to provide a retrospective on his career in and out of the government and how key experiences shaped his current philosophy on “civic participation and local governance” according to APARC.

Additionally, he will present case studies from his tenure as mayor to illustrate specific communication strategies that promote collective action and engage citizens in relevant social and political matters.

Park earned a diploma in International Law at the London School of Economics and a bachelor’s degree in history from Dankook University.  He has held a tenure as a visiting research fellow at Harvard University Law School’s Human Rights Program and as a distinguished practitioner at Stanford University through APARC.
