“The Throne,” South Korea’s Oscar submission for this year, will open the 35th Hawaii International Film Festival Monday, according to Yonhap.

Directed by Lee Joon-ik and starring top talents Song Kang-ho and Yoo Ah-in, the historical film paints a portrait of a royal family under distress as a king sentences his son to death.

HIFF, one of the largest film festivals in North America, was started in 1981.

This year’s South Korean selections include “The Throne,” “Veteran” and “Assassination.”
