[OC REGISTER] The stormy weather that claimed the life of a college student and injured others stuck around Monday, and National Weather Service experts predicted the lightning may return.
The lightning that also knocked out power in the South Bay and started fires on Santa Catalina Island could return to the area with a chance of thunderstorms Wednesday, said National Weather Service meteorologist Kurt Kaplan.
California is not a likely place for lightning occurrences, and when lightning does strike, it’s usually in the mountains. But when it strikes the beach, that’s one of the most hazardous places to be, said John Jensenius, a lightning specialist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. [READ MORE]
