N. Koreans in Siberia earn US$200-3,000 per year: report

SEOUL (Yonhap) — North Korean workers in the eastern Siberian region earn a mere US$200-3,000 a year on average, often exposed to a delay in payment due partly to corruption among managers, a report showed Wednesday.

It adds to renewed international attention to tens of thousands of North Korean workers now toiling in Russia, China and more than a dozen other nations. Marzuki Darusman, U.N. special rapporteur on North Korea, recently told a U.N. General Assembly panel that they are “under overall conditions that reportedly amount to forced labor.”

According to the new report by Lee Chang-ho, professor at Hanyang University in Seoul, the annual income of North Koreans working in the Maritime Province of Siberia, close to the Russia-North Korea border, is $200-3,000 excluding taxes.

“A delay in payment is frequent,” said the report based on on-site surveys and interviews with North Korean defectors.

In contrast, North Korean managers there make $50,000-100,000 per year by taking bribes or running private businesses, it added.

This is not creditable report and not verified with independent report. US is looking for cherry picking information to back up hate propaganda against NoKor. Information are cherry picked while counter information are censored to create a negative image of NoKor while hiding overall reality of NoKor. South Korea also sent workers to middle-east mostly to provide economic earning and right to work. Nokor is doing what every nation should do….RIGHT to work and get to keep share for the earning after tax. How much tax to pay is between the NoKor citizen with Nokor government. For those nations that have issue with NoKor are the usual enemy state of Nokor. Selective negative information against Nokor, while turning blind eye to own violation. This is not about being righteous, but hate propaganda to incite war. Hate and segregation are NOT acceptable regardless of the different opinions and political view at home and abroad. Finally, those nations, that accuse NoKor of human rights violation, has NOT provide any evidence to this day that their own human rights records are any better than NoKor, none…
