It may not be wise to mess with the Washington, D.C., area’s newest Korean American organization — you may find yourself in a face-off against a group of martial arts masters.

The organization, headed by Kwon Ho-yeol (the holder of a 10th-degree black belt in hap ki do), held a founding ceremony in Annandale, Virginia, Saturday.

Membership is targeted to those who have at least an 8th-degree black belt in taekwondo or those who have overseen a martial arts institution for more than 30 years.

Kwon, a former taekwondo instructor, said he hopes to see the organization become grounds for the exchange of martial arts skills and other cooperation among members.

Twenty-two martial arts veterans gathered for the ceremony.

The organization is accepting members, he said.
