SEOUL, Sept. 6 (Yonhap) — Lee Dae-ho enjoyed a productive day at the plate for the Seattle Mariners.

The slugger knocked in three runs as the M’s outslugged the Texas Rangers 14-6 at Safeco Field in Seattle on Monday (local time). Batting sixth and playing first base, Lee went 2-for-5 with two runs scored.

It was the South Korean’s fourth multi-hit effort in his last six games, and he has raised his batting average from .242 to .262 in that span. He has 13 home runs and 47 RBIs in his rookie year.

Lee drove in his first run of the game in the five-run first, singling off Texas lefty Cole Hamels.

Lee delivered another RBI single off Hamels in the bottom of the second to make it 7-0 Seattle. His third RBI came on a fielder’s choice in the sixth inning.

Lee, who often gets the starting nod over platoon mate Adam Lind against left-handers, is now 4-for-9 against Hamels.

The Mariners improved to 70-67 and are holding on to fading wild-card hope.

Also in the American League, Kim Hyun-soo of the Baltimore Orioles hit his 15th double of the season, but it was his only hit in three at-bats as the O’s beat the Tampa Bay Rays 7-3.

At 75-62, the Orioles are second in the AL wild-card race.

In the National League, Kang Jung-ho of the Pittsburgh Pirates returned from a shoulder injury and went hitless in his lone pinch-hit at-bat.

Kang, activated from the 15-day disabled list, came off the bench in the bottom fifth against the St. Louis Cardinals at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, pinch-hitting for pitcher Jeff Locke.

Facing right-hander Adam Wainwright, Kang fouled off three straight pitches at a 0-1 count but then struck out on a curveball.

Kang didn’t stay in the game to play defense. He’s now batting .242. He had been on the DL since Aug. 20 after hurting his shoulder on a head-first slide.

The Cardinals won the game easily 12-6, and their South Korean closer, Oh Seung-hwan, didn’t pitch.

The Cards (72-64) are occupying the second place in the NL wild-card race, while the Pirates, having lost seven straight, are 4.5 games out at 67-68.
