June 16, 2014

Koreans rank third in the number of international students around the world, says a UNESCO report.

International students from South Korea numbered 123,000 in 2012, behind China’s 694,000 and India’s 189,000, Japan’s The Nikkei reported Saturday.

In comparison, the U.S. had 58,000 students studying around the globe.

Following Korea were Germany (117,000), Saudi Arabia (62,000) and France (62,000).

The report researched about 200 countries and included both students who study abroad to obtain a bachelor’s degree and those who have been registered as international graduate students for at least one year. Exchange students were not included.

The U.S. was the country that accepted the most international students, with 740,000, followed by the U.K. (427,000), France (271,000), Australia (249,000) and Germany (206,000).
