Korean violinist named as first Asian lifetime concertmaster at prominent French orchestra

SEOUL, Nov. 27 (Yonhap) — South Korean violinist Park Ji-yoon has been named as the first Asian lifetime concertmaster at Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, one of the most prominent French orchestras, her management agency here said Tuesday.

The 33-year-old violinist earned the privilege since initially starting the post in August on a three-month probation, Moc Production said.

Along with Orchestre de Paris and Orchestre National de France, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France ranks as the top French orchestra, where South Korean maestro Chung Myung-whun served a 15-year stint as music director.

“I couldn’t relax myself for the duration of the probation, and I am happy that led to a good result,” the agency quoted Park as saying. “I was very touched by my colleagues who clapped and cheered at the news.”
