Korean orgs form national anti-domestic violence coalition

Seven Korean American non-profit organizations dealing with domestic violence services from around the country have formed an unprecedented alliance.

Operated in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Chicago and Austin, the groups are hoping to form a stronger wall in domestic violence protection by joining hands.

Korean American Family Services (KFAM) and Center for the Pacific Asian Family (CPAF) announced Tuesday the newly formed group, known as the National Korean American Coalition to End Domestic Abuse (NKACEDA).

The new coalition seeks to expand the Korean network of community-based organizations fighting domestic abuse and to share ideas and resources.

Deborah Suh, CPAF executive director, said a 24-hour hotline is available to Koreans suffering from domestic and sexual abuse at 800-339-3940.

“Reports have shown that one in three women, and one in seven men, are domestic abuse victims,” Suh said.
