The number of incoming Korean students in the University of California system continues to decrease for the fourth year in a row, according to an annual report released Wednesday by UC’s Office of the President.

According to the report, 2,433 Korean students — both freshmen (1,414) and transfer students (1,019) — have enrolled in the fall semester at UC.

Of the universities in the system, Riverside has the highest number of new Korean freshmen with 279 students, followed by San Diego with 214, Los Angeles with 196 and Berkeley with 192. Merced had the smallest number, at 13.

In 2011, the total number of new fall students of Korean descent was 2,807; in 2012, 2,758 students; and in 2013, 2,538 students.

Still, UC’s report this year also showed that Asian Americans make up 39.4 percent — almost 4 out of every 10 students — of incoming UC freshmen.
