SEOUL (Yonhap) — Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea’s leading automaker, has recalled about 470,000 cars sold in the United States due to engine defects, foreign media reports showed Friday.

Subject to the recall are the Sonata midsize sedans produced between 2011 and 2012, according to the reports. The cars are equipped with 2-liter or 2.4-liter diesel engines.

Hyundai Motor has decided to recall the cars due to some metal remnants in the crank shaft that could stop the engine, they explained.

Officials from the Seoul-based Hyundai Motor were not available for comments.
