Emerging artists to show exhibit at new Koreatown gallery

A new Koreatown gallery showcasing art from local artists will open its first exhibition this week.

Gallery CLU hopes to become a platform for young, emerging artists to share their work, said Ellie Bae, gallery head.

Bae took over another art gallery, which had been in the area for nine years, and transformed it into CLU.

Its first exhibition, to begin Thursday, will run until June 13 and feature the artists of the group BIAA, with a theme of Los Angeles.

BIAA is a gathering of young artists, among them Stella Bae, Woo Jin Choi, Chuck Hohng, Elisabeth Joung, Fina Jung, Yoon-ah Jung, Bella Kim, Yukyoung Kim, Yuma Lynch, Jennifer Moon, Young Ku Park and Jason Shin.

Hohng, CLU’s curator and featured artist, said Koreatown — which is located in the center of Los Angeles — is a place of infinite possibilities, one that is already home to active cultural exchanges.

He said the gallery will act as a bridge for promising new artists.

The opening reception for BIAA’s exhibit will take place Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 4011 W. 6th St #102.

The gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
