Choo hits HR, then undergoes MRI

The Texas Rangers’ $130 million outfielder Choo Shin-soo hit his second home run of the season Monday, then hurt himself later in the game.

Choo will will undergo an MRI and miss Tuesday’s game.

Choo suffered a left ankle sprain trying to beat out an infield single in the seventh inning of the Rangers’ 4-3 win over Oakland A’s Monday night. He stepped on the base awkwardly, and took himself out of the game.

X-rays showed no fracture, but Choo decided to take a cautious approach.

“I hit the bag. It felt sore so I just came out of the game,” Choo said. “I don’t want to make it worse.”

The Rangers already have 10 players on a disabled list, and they hope Choo won’t be the 11th.

Before he got hurt, Choo hit a leadoff home run in the first inning — his 12th career leadoff homer and first as a Ranger.

It took him 54 at-bats over 16 games to hit his first home run of the year, but took just ten more at-bats to launch the second one.

Choo walked in the third, lined out to left in the fifth, and had what was initially ruled to be an infield single in the seventh. But after a video review, the call was overturned.
