9 is fine! S. Korean-born golfers extend win streak

With Kim Hyo-joo closing out the JTBC Founders Cup with a victory Sunday, the 19-year-old extended the 2015 streak for South Korean-born winners on the LPGA and Ladies European Tour (LET) to nine.

This particular demographic has won every event on both tours this season. All nine events have yielded eight different winners.

The win moved Kim up to No. 4 in the world rankings and compatriot Amy Yang moved into 10th bumping 2014 Kraft Nabisco Championship winner Lexi Thompson to 11th. After this week, half of the world’s top-10 female golfers are now Korean-born players.

World No. 3 American golfer Stacy Lewis led the field after the first round and put up a fight for the remaining rounds, but came up three shots short to finish solo-second.

She had two words to describe the South Korean dominance she’s seen on tour.

“They’re fearless,” Lewis said.

25 South Korean players are on the LPGA tour this season compared to the 45 Americans.

Three South Korean players finished in the top-3 including Lee Il-hee and Lee Mi-hyang who both tied for third.
