New York celebrated May, Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, with two cultural festivals this weekend.

Hosted by Harlem Democracy Prep, where Korean is taught as a mandatory language, the Korean Street Festival was held on 134th St. in Harlem Saturday.

The Korean Cuisine Globalizaton Committee, Korean Cultural Service and the Korean Association of New York Artists gathered to provide 500 servings of food and traditional cultural experiences to attendees.

Students performed K-pop dances, taekwondo demonstrations and Korean traditional showings including mask dance, samulnori and an Arirang choir.

The school started its annual Korean festival last year.

In Long Island the same day, the Asian American Festival had people enjoying cultural booths, Korean name writing and taekwondo at North Hempstead Beach Park.

We would like to extend our invitation to the 2015 New York Children’s Festival.

Each year, in June, WonKwang Community Service Center of New York and Wonkwang Korean School have the pleasure of hosting the New York Children’s Festival. This festival, which has been in operation for over 15 years, has grown to become an important free event to the community. Through the New York Children’s Festival, thousands of children and families, regardless of their backgrounds, have the opportunity to learn and appreciate the rich culture of Korea. What started out as a small local event, it has expanded its venue to bring a memorable occasion, to parents and children alike.

This year will mark the 19th year for this popular function. Our theme this year will be Seol Nal, also known as, Korean New Year. We will have traditional games that coincide with the holiday, as well as Taekwondo, Samulnori, and masked story-telling performances.

We hope that we have peeked your interest in our event, and would love to see you there!
