Amid heightened tension on the Korean Peninsula, a North Korean patrol boat on Monday crossed the de facto western maritime border, a South Korea military official said.

The boat crossed the Northern Limit Line (NLL) at around 6: 55 a.m., retreating only when the South fired warning shots, Yonahp reported.

South Korea is on high alert after the North Sunday launched a long-range rocket in violation of U.N. Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.

Seoul said it would expand the psychological loudspeaker broadcasts against the North, which were resumed after the North’s nuclear test on Jan. 6.

Seoul also decided to begin talks with the U.S. on deploying a Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) battery to South Korea.
