Joo Hye-jung, a Korean pianist from Los Angeles, released her third studio album, “Sunshine Garden,” on May 20.

A pioneer of the crossover jazz piano style in Korea, Joo has been active in both film and broadcasting in Korea through her music.

She acted as a producer for her new album and collaborated with bassist Oh Jung-taek and drummer Kim Yoon-tae. “Sunshine Garden” comes three years after her second album, “Spring Comes.”

Her credits include music in the films “Memento Mori 2,” “Asako in Ruby Shoes,” “I Wish I Had a Wife,” “Bet On My Disco,” “April Snow,” “Sa-kwa” and “The World of Silence.”

She said her third release expresses classical piano through jazz and strays away from improvised sounds to appeal to a wider audience.

Joo graduated from Seoul National University’s music program, studied classical piano at the Royal Academy of Music and received her master’s degree in music from California State University, Los Angeles.
