Korean the third most spoken language in Georgia, Virginia

Korean is the third most spoken language after English and Spanish in Georgia and Virginia.

Slate’s map of the United States illustrates each of the 50 states’ third-most prevalent languages based on the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey.

In Virginia, six percent of the population is Asian, only 1.6 percent lower than its Hispanic population.

On the other hand, Asians make up 3.3 percent of Georgia’s population, with about 100,000 Koreans residing in the state. Korean car manufacturers Kia and Hyundai set up their factories in Georgia 10 years ago, increasing the number of Koreans and Korean-speaking people.

In California, which has the largest Korean population in the U.S., the third most spoken language is Tagalog.
