Sri Lanka is geographically isolated from surrounding nations, which makes sense considering that the 20 or so million citizens are situated on an island all by themselves.

So what better way to help them connect with the rest of the world than through internet access that spans across the entire nation?

Google’s “Project Loon” is planning to do just that through an innovative project that will mount the necessary equipment to 13 balloons placed strategically above the country.

This isn’t the first time Google has implemented this type of floating network, but it is unprecedented in the sense that it has never been realized on such a large scale. The last time the tech giant did something like this was in 2013 when “Project Loon” began its test phases in New Zealand.

The official launch will take place within the next few months.
